What is Green Star?

Green Star is New Zealand’s most popular voluntary building rating system for non-residential buildings, fit outs and communities. It is a valuable tool available to those who seek to transform our built environment.

Green Star provides a rating of up to six stars based on a buildings key sustainability credentials. Green Star certification is available for every commercial building type; from schools and hospitals, to office buildings, shopping centres, and industrial warehouses. It can even be used for large-scale community developments.

We strongly believe in and support the efforts of the New Zealand Green Building Council for measured improvements of our built environment for future generations.  It all comes down to better places, proven.

Responsible Products Framework

The Responsible Products Program is a key initiative designed to help ensure that the materials used in the built environment are not only sustainable but also contribute positively to human health and the planet. This program is guided by the principles of responsibility, health, positivity, circularity, and leadership.

The Green Building Council of Australia, partnered with the New Zealand Green Building Council to assesses various initiatives that certify products used in the built environment. To receive a Responsible Product Value (RPV), an initiative must meet the minimum expectations and specific technical criteria outlined in the Responsible Products Guidelines. Once recognized, the initiative’s certified products are awarded RPVs, which can be used in Green Star projects to earn credits for responsible product use.

The products listed below may contribute to a project’s Green Star rating through the Responsible Products credits, based on the supporting certifications noted below.

  • CQuestBioX backed, solution-dyed nylon carpet tiles are Interfaces’ most sustainable flooring option to date. The backing has the same bio-material make-up as CQuestBio, but with a higher concentration of bio-material which mitigates the carbon footprint of the fit-for-purpose, low weight, high recycled content nylon yarn, resulting a truly carbon negative carpet tile, cradle-to-gate.

  • CQuest™Bio backed, solution-dyed nylon carpet tiles provide the ideal low carbon solution. CQuest™Bio contains recycled and bio-based materials. These materials, measured on a standalone basis, are net carbon negative – greatly reducing our carbon footprint.

  • Interface Luxury Vinyl Tiles 4.5mm use a  Ceramor™ ceramic bead coating making them resistant to scratching and scuffing.  It’s also made with a fibreglass layer between two core sheets – creating a strong core for dimensional stability and flexibility and is finished off with superior Sound Choice™ backing as standard. This means less noise, even on hard floors – so you can build spaces made for concentration. In particular, it reduces impact sound by 16 dB to avoid disturbances between floors and rooms. So it’s especially useful in multi-storey office buildings, as well as in education, healthcare and hospitality environments.
