Trust Waikato
Project Overview
In 2018, Trust Waikato opened its new building, designed by Chow:Hill. A space that reflects an integration of community, cultural and historical influence, while serving as a welcoming hub for community collaboration. Interface Carpet Tile’s from Inzide were chosen for their world-leading sustainability credentials, performance, and design versatility. The combination of World Woven and Human Nature collections brought texture, warmth, and a sense of purpose to the space.
Now, several years on, Trust Waikato has refreshed their foyer area and community room, choosing a darker version of the Dobby pattern from the World Woven collection.
When it came time to replace the existing carpet tiles, Trust Waikato was committed to finding a recycling solution, the answer was the Interface ReEntry programme. They contacted Van Dyks Flooring Xtra, the flooring contractor, who collaborated with Inzide to support this kaupapa. The team at Van Dyks Flooring Xtra carefully lifted and prepared the carpet tiles for transport to Inzide. From there, the pallet will be shipped back to the manufacturer, Interface. The carpet tiles will enter the proprietary ReEntry® process, giving the materials a second life in the circular product life-cycle of Interface flooring. Rather than ending up in landfill, the tiles will be stripped back to the material components and reintegrated into Interface’s manufacturing stream, keeping valuable materials in circulation.
By participating in the ReEntry program, Trust Waikato, with the support of Van Dyks Flooring Xtra and Inzide, has directly contributed to the circular economy model. Taking the conventional model of take, make, waste and connecting the loop between product use and product creation.
Every square metre recycled represents carbon and waste savings, a measurable, positive environmental outcome that aligns with Trust Waikato’s, Van Dyks Flooring Xtra and Inzide’s sustainability values. The result is a beautiful, renewed interior that’s as thoughtful as it is functional, and a perfect example of how design and sustainability can work hand in hand to build a better future.
At Inzide, sustainability isn’t a side project, it’s the foundation of everything we do. Through Interface’s innovative product design and ReEntry program, we’re able to ensure that each stage of this product’s life has purpose, from installation through to responsible end-of-life management. If you are working on a project where Interface carpet tiles are to be uplifted, please reach out so we can capture this valuable resource before it goes to landfill and is lost forever.
