Project Overview

Over 30 years. More than 150 million travellers . Even the occasional flood.

Few flooring installations can match this level of endurance.
If there were ever a showcase for high-performance flooring, Marmoleum at Auckland International Airport would be it.

Installed in 1994, the floor has delivered over three decades of continuous service in one of New Zealand’s busiest environments. It has supported the movement of millions, all while maintaining its appearance and performance under constant foot traffic, rolling luggage, and daily operational demands.

Its resilience was put to the test during the 2023 floods, where despite being fully submerged, the flooring demonstrated its ability to withstand extreme conditions.

The original design, inspired by waka landing on a riverbank, remains as visually striking today as when it was first installed, highlighting the lasting impact of both thoughtful design and quality materials.

Now, after more than 30 years of proven performance, the airport is investing in the future with a planned flooring upgrade. The new solution from Nora by Interface has been selected to meet the demands of a modern, high-traffic environment, offering enhanced slip resistance, exceptional durability, acoustic comfort, and a refined aesthetic.

With a vision for the next 40+ years, this transition builds on an already impressive legacy, setting a new benchmark for performance, safety, and longevity.
