Durability

Introduction

All Interface carpet tiles are made with Solution-dyed nylon yarn.

Solution dying injects fibre with colour throughout, like a carrot. Non-solution dyed fibre only has colour on the surface, like a radish. Solution-dyed colour lasts longer, resisting most bleaches and other harmful liquids as well as sun exposure. And with Interface’s Protekt®  stain-resistant technology, you’ve got added protection against staining with no need for additional treatment.

Australian Carpet Classification Scheme

The Australian Carpet Classification Scheme (ACCS) is one of the most recognised ‘all fibre’ carpet grading schemes in the world. ACCS rated carpets are independently tested by NATA accredited laboratories and assessed by the ACCS Panel of carpet experts.

Carpets are then rated according to their suitability for use in commercial (contract) and residential installations in trafficking conditions described as light, medium, heavy and extra heavy.

They employ a scoring system that emphasizes both objective metrics (90 out of 100 points) and subjective assessment (10 points). Carpets must also meet minimum standards for various construction and performance properties before receiving a grading.

On the test reports there is a performance number.

The first digit gives an idea of the general environment:

  • Residential (Blue and yellow ACCS label)
  • Commercial (Gold and black label)

The second digit indicates the level of traffic:

  • Light Duty
  • Moderate Duty
  • Heavy Duty
  • Extra Heavy Duty

Some carpets will carry both Residential and Commercial gradings. When the STAIR graphic appears on the label, it is accompanied by the wording: Suitable for Stairs. This indicates that the product is suitable for use on stairs in terms of its durability and appearance retention properties.

For example, Interface Carpet tiles are designed to go into commercial environments such as busy office spaces and public buildings.

For a large office with 100+ staff, a rating of 33-34 would be expected.
