The adaptive reuse of the University of Auckland's B201 building stands as a beacon of sustainable design and innovation, setting a new standard for green architecture in New Zealand. The project achieved an unprecedented 6 Green Star rating for design from the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC), with an impressive score of 93 out of 100 points. At the heart of this achievement lies a commitment to sustainability, with a focus on low-carbon design principles and innovative solutions to reduce environmental impact. At Inzide, we take pride in our commitment to sustainability and innovation, which is why our collaboration with Jasmax for this project was such an exciting endeavour.

The design brief was clear: to seamlessly blend sustainability, functionality, and aesthetics.

One key aspect of the project's sustainability strategy was the selection of low-carbon materials. Enter Interface's revolutionary CQuest™ Bio backing – a game changer in sustainability. This innovative backing, made from bio-based materials, significantly reduces the carbon footprint of the flooring. The incorporation of CQuest™ Bio products into the interior design contributed to meeting the project's ambitious carbon reduction targets and enhanced the overall sustainability profile of the building. The flooring played a pivotal role in elevating the indoor environmental quality within the space, offering improved sound absorption properties and air quality. These attributes ensure a comfortable and healthy learning environment for both students and faculty.

Interface Luxury Vinyl Tile in natural woodgrain perfectly complements the biophilic theme of the interior design as well as the exposed timber beams and window seating throughout the building. Additionally, Interface’s Net Effect Carpet Tile collection, in the striking deep blue colours Atlantic and Pacific and the Composure range in a beautiful deep green custom hue were also selected.

As New Zealand continues its journey towards zero-carbon buildings by 2050, projects like the University of Auckland's B201 building serve as shining examples of what is possible when sustainability and innovation come together. By prioritizing low-carbon materials, and employing cutting-edge design principles, this project demonstrates that sustainable architecture can not only minimize environmental impact but also inspire and empower future generations.

Inzide is immensely proud to have played a part in this groundbreaking project, pushing the boundaries of sustainability and design excellence. As we continue to innovate and collaborate with visionary partners like Jasmax, we remain committed to shaping a future where architecture not only inspires but also embodies our collective responsibility to the planet.

Together, we are pioneering a new era of sustainable design, one floor at a time.
