Talk about a win/win situation. Landcare, as a protector of the New Zealand environment, certainly practice what they preach. In this case they wanted a great price and to get as sustainable a product as possible.
The winning concept was a patchwork quilt. As is common with carpet tile, there are over-runs, stock that has been discontinued and projects where stock was purchased but which ended up, for whatever reason, not going ahead. And of course these are generally in small quantities. Net result is either landfill, recycling or finding small jobs that will take these unusual patterned/coloured tiles. It certainly clogs up our warehouse.
In this case we were able to provide Landcare Research a below cost price for 1st grade stock and they were able to provide a visual representation of being very sustainable - using up leftovers while providing a carpet that was fully warrantied to perform for 15 years.
Well done Landcare Research. You have certainly made a statement on sustainability and innovation.
