Aged care facilities need floors that cope with extreme conditions yet provide warmth and visual appeal to the many patients and their visitors.

Interface’s Solution dyed 6’6 nylon carpet tiles was the solution Kerikeri trust relies on. Each tile comes with a life-time antimicrobial built into the backing of the carpet. Each nylon yarn is ‘Protekt’ protected meaning that it cannot absorb stain into the yarn.

And should a tile become soiled, simply replace it with a stock tile and take out the soiled one for gentle washing in the sink with hot water. If the stain is particularly bad, you can even use diluted bleach (1 part bleach, 4 parts water). As the colour is throughout the yarn, you cannot remove the colour unlike dyed fibres such as wool or inferior printed nylon carpet tile. And in NZ’s conditions, no sun fade. Another real plus.

Kerikeri Trust opted for a constant charcoal colour to compliment the more airy whitened interior. However they chose to quarter-turn the tile for a number of sound flooring reasons.

1) batch matches in the future are not an issue as the optics created by quarter turning hide any batch variation.

2) When cleaners replace soiled tiles with cupboard stock you cannot notice that one tile looks cleaner/washed than the ones around it – same reason as above

3) Creates a beautiful checkerboard effect that provides a design element to an otherwise constant carpet format.

Net result, a very satisfied customer.
